About Me
My name is Farren Johnson and I am in my third year of teaching K-12 Art for Green Mountain Garwin Schools. I am a graduate from the University of Northern Iowa.
Art has been a huge part of my life since I can remember. While I was growing up I remember loving art. Many friends and family members would constantly tell me that I should become an art teacher when I get older. Well to my surprise it actually happened! I enjoyed many different activities as I went through school, music being one of them. Without music or art in my life I'm not sure where I would be.
I decided to become an art teacher on a whim. When I first started college I was a music major. And then one day I changed my mind and never looked back. It was the best decision I have ever made. I now get to enjoy teaching all age groups every day. Watching my students discover new things, make connections between art and real life, and seeing them create art is an amazing joy.
I believe that art is something that every person can enjoy. It doesn't matter whether there is natural talent or not, everyone is an artist. I am determined to find something that each of my students can be successful at. Art has helped me to think outside the box, to come up with multiple solutions to any given problem. This is an essential skill that students need to learn today because no matter what job they hold in the future, critical thinking and problem solving skills are necessary. With art there is no right or wrong. Art is subjective. The beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and if you are enjoying what you are doing, that is what truly matters.
